aurum is situated on a pristine pacific beach, nestled in new zealand native pohutukawa bush. two volcanic mountains, one active, lie in the sea to the north. to the east a river estuary and the distant mountains of new zealand’s remote east cape are an everchanging display for your enjoyment. its elevated setting offers breathtaking views. native birds of new zealand, the tui, kereru, morepork and yes, even a kiwi serenade aurum’s guests, adding their songs to the constant song of the pacific ocean. the mile of unspoilt beachfront to the east of aurum is a nature reserve, offering safe nesting for cheeky oystercatchers and the rare new zealand dotterel. the 1.5 mile beachwalk to the west of aurum passes by our small, quiet neighborhood, followed by a long stretch of pohutukawa clad hills and culminating at beautiful ohiwa harbour. aurum’s own private grounds, expansive beach and lovely guest rooms provide the ideal space for renewal.
ohiwa beach, known locally as bryan’s beach, is in a rural setting surrounded by farmland. although we are just minutes off the stunning pacific coast highway, our beach is largely undiscovered and aurum, even more secluded.
