by air
overseas visitors fly to new zealand’s north island into auckland, then take a plane to whakatane. for christchurch arrivals, flights to rotorua are available. aurum is happy to provide or organize transport for guests from whakatane or rotorua, for a fee.
by bus
whakatane and opotiki are served by intercity buses from gisborne, rotorua and tauranga. there is also a local bus service between whakatane and opotiki. aurum will provide transport for guests from whakatane for a fee, and will provide complimentary transport to connect with intercity in opotiki.
by car
from whakatane: head to ohope beach, then follow signs to opotiki. the road winds around ohiwa harbour and through wainui gorge to merge with state hwy 2. go left on state hwy 2 towards opotiki and through kutarere settlement; pass waiotahi garage on right, pass looney’s road on left, take next left on ohiwa beach rd. turn right at one lane bridge and head to beach; after speed bump/judder bar, road makes a 90 degree bend to the left. on your left, aurum is very first drive you come to, immediately after judder bar/speed bump. welcome!
from rotorua: go to whakatane. follow directions above.
from opotiki: head to whakatane. enjoy waiotahi beach and pohutukawas, then road bends left to head inland at waiotahi river mouth. turn right on ohiwa beach road, immediately after the waiotahi river bridge. turn right at one lane bridge and head to beach; after speed bump/judder bar, road makes a 90 degree bend to the left. on your left, aurum is very first drive you come to, just past judder bar/speed bump. welcome!
